Yahner, winner of a USTA Girls’ 18 National Open tournament in El Paso, Texas last summer, becomes the third highly regarded player to ink a letter of intent with Coach Macdonald’s Commodore squad.

Yahner, who attends Fort Lauderdale Preparatory School in south Florida, is currently ranked seventh nationally in the USTA Girls 18 classification.

Yahner, daughter of Rea Melanson and the late Ronald Yahner, participated in the USTA Clay Court and Hard Court Supernationals last year, based on her successes in National Open competition.

Yahner is also one of the finest Girls’ 18 players in the USTA’s Intermountain region, which includes Colorado, Montana, Utah and Nevada. Winner of the Intermountain winter and Easter circuits in 2004, Yahner served as captain of the Intermountain Fed Cup squad.

Yahner has been playing competitive tennis since the age of 12. At the age of 14, she captured four titles, including the Nevada Governor’s Cup.

She is a longtime pupil of noted instructor Andrei Kozlov, owner of the XL Tennis Academy in Delray Beach, Fla.
