Vanderbilt hosts Music City Challenger

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s Currey Tennis Center will be the site of professional tennis this weekend when the United States Tennis Association (USTA) hosts the 2008 Music City Challenger Nov. 1-8.

The 32-player field features many familiar names in professional tennis. Among the most prominent name is former Commodore Bobby Reynolds, who is currently ranked 87th in the world. Other notable players include No. 80 Vincent Spadea, No. 101 Jess Levine, No. 108 Robert Kendrick, No. 122 Donald Young and No. 126 Kevin Anderson.

The tournament will be played indoors and will feature a singles and doubles draw with the cost of admission being $10.

The qualifying rounds for the tournament will be held Nov. 1-2 with the main draw taking place Nov. 3-8.

The USTA Pro Circuit is the pathway to the US Open and tour-level competition for aspiring tennis players and established professionals. The circuit has 94 tournaments throughout the country with prize money ranging from $10,000 to $100,000. Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick, James Blake and Andy Murray are among today’s top players that began their careers on the USTA Pro Circuit.
