Pregame Notes
– Vanderbilt is in its 121st year of organized football.
– The Commodores wore white jersey tops with black pants for the first time this season … The last time Vanderbilt wore this jersey combination was Nov. 7, 2009 at Florida.
– For the first time this season all four of Vanderbilt’s captains (Joey Bailey, T.J. Greenstone, Chris Marve and Adam Smotherman) dressed out for the game … At least one captain had been unable to suit up for each game due to injury.
– Georgia won the toss and deferred until the second half.
Team Notes
– This is the 71st meeting between Vanderbilt and Georgia … Georgia leads the all-time series 51-18-2.
– Vanderbilt’s last win in the series was a 24-22 win in 2006 in Athens … Former kicker Bryant Hahnfeldt hit a 33-yard field goal with :02 seconds to play to give the Commodores the win.
– The loss was Vanderbilt’s worst since being defeated 48-0 by Tennessee on Nov. 22, 2003.
– Georgia took a 3-0 lead after Blair Walsh’s 31-yard field goal with 7:41 remaining in the first quarter … The Commodores last won a game in which they did not score first on Oct. 4, 2008 against Auburn when the Tigers built a 13-0 lead before Vanderbilt scored 14 straight points for a 14-13 win.
– Vanderbilt has won its last five games that it has scored first – dating back to the Music City Bowl.
– The last time Vanderbilt lost when it scored first was Nov. 29, 2008 at Wake Forest.
– Vanderbilt has scored first only four times in 18 games – against Eastern Michigan Oct. 9, Ole Miss Sept. 18 and Western Carolina and Rice in 2009 … All were wins.
– An errant snap by Vanderbilt resulted in a safety by Georgia with :14 seconds to play in the first quarter … It marked second safety the Commodores have allowed this season … Vanderbilt also allowed a safety in the closing minutes against UConn.
– Vanderbilt was outscored 12-0 in the first quarter … Vanderbilt has scored just once this season in the first quarter (Eastern Michigan).
– Vanderbilt’s 22-0 halftime deficit was its largest since Nov. 8, 2008 against Florida when Vanderbilt trailed 35-0.
– The game marks the second time this season Vanderbilt has been shutout at the half.
– Vanderbilt had a season low three penalties … VU’s previous low was six penalties in the last three games.
– Vanderbilt’s 58 yards rushing were its fewest since being held to 33 by Mississippi State on Sept. 19, 2009.
Individual Notes
– Defensive tackle Adam Smotherman made his 2010 debut with 11:15 to play in the second quarter.
– Vanderbilt started sophomore running backs Warren Norman and Zac Stacy together in the backfield for the first time this season and second time in their careers (at Florida in 2009).
– Linebacker Chris Marve returned to the starting lineup after missing last week’s game against Eastern Michigan and having his team-best consecutive games streak of 29 come to an end.
– Cornerback Casey Hayward is the team’s active leader with 18 consecutive starts.
– Vanderbilt has 22 players on its roster from Georgia.
– The Commodores have played 13 true freshmen this season.
Defense
– Safety Kenny Ladler registered a career-high nine tackles … His previous high was five at UConn.
– Linebacker John Stokes set a career high with 11 tackles … His previous best was 10 tackles at Ole Miss on Sept. 18.
– Defensive end Theron Kadri registered the fourth tackle-for-loss of his career and first of the season in the first quarter.
– Defensive back Jamie Graham registered his first pass breakup of the season.
– Linebacker Nate Campbell had this fourth tackle-for-loss of the season and fourth in two games.
– Cornerback Casey Hayward set a season high with nine tackles … He had eight tackles at Ole Miss.
Offense
– Brandon Barden’s 28-yard reception in the first quarter was his second longest of the season.
– Quarterback Larry Smith tied a season low with 70 yards passing (LSU).
– Running back Warren Norman was held to a career low 28 yards rushing on seven carries … His previous low was 26 yards against Mississippi State in 2009.
– Freshman Logan Stewart saw some action at center after starting center Joey Bailey went down with an injury at the end of the first quarter … Bailey returned for the next offensive series after his injury … Logan, the 13th true freshman to play this year, made his Commodore debut against Eastern Michigan last week.
Special Teams
– Warren Norman moved into seventh place on the school’s all-time kickoff return yardage list with 1,487 return yards … Norman surpassed Clary Parker (1,388 yards) and Doug Nettles (1,450 yards) … Norman entered the game with 1,352 yards … Norman had eight returns for 155 yards.
