Vanderbilt defensive coordinator will not return

Dec. 8, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt will not retain defensive coach David Kotulski, Head Coach Derek Mason announced.

Kotulski served as defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach during Mason’s first year on campus.

The relationship between Kotulski and Mason dates to the late 1990s when they were members of the defensive staff at Bucknell University. Kotulski also worked under Mason as a linebackers coach at Stanford in 2012-13.

“David is a very close friend and true mentor. Few coaches have impacted my career and knowledge of defensive schemes as much as Coach Kotulski. I greatly appreciate his service to our program in the last year,” Mason said.

Earlier, Mason announced that offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Karl Dorrell, receivers coach Marc Lubick and conditioning director Bill Hughan would not return for the 2015 season.
