Vanderbilt Commodores Honored at O’Charley’s Dinner of Champions 2/11/2005 Former men’s basketball player Matt Freije was selected as the Amateur Athlete of the Year last night (Feb. 10) at the O’Charley’s Dinner of Champions (Nashville Sports Council). Also nominated for the award was Commodore baseball left-handed pitcher Jeremy Sowers. Freije was also nominated for Sports Person of the Year along with VU Head Baseball Coach Tim Corbin. Vanderbilt made three appearances on the 2004 Top 10 Moments in Nashville Sports. The men’s basketball team’s run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 was ranked second on the Top 10 list. The baseball team’s trip to the NCAA Super Regional was No. 6 and the women’s basketball team’s SEC Tournament title was No. 7. The event was held Feb. 10 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. |
