Vanderbilt Baseball Set To Open Fall Practice

Nashville, Tenn. — Vanderbilt baseball is set to open its fall practice schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 2:30 p.m.

The Commodores are coming off a 34-21 season and fourth place showing in the SEC East, and welcome a highly-touted recruiting class of 17 newcomers into the fold.

“It is going to be interesting,” said fourth-year head coach Tim Corbin. “We lost a lot of players and have so many newcomers that a lot of positions are going to be opened up.”

VU has three senior starters returning from last year, Matt Buschmann, Rucker Taylor and Brian Hernandez. “It’s nice to have the three seniors back. I think they will all contribute in their own way. Getting seniors back that have playing experience is pretty rare in college baseball because usually they are taken away in the draft. They are going to be important components in what we do this year.”

Sophomore lefthander David Price returns to anchor the pitching staff after being named a College Summer All-American by Baseball America. He had a stellar summer playing for the USA National Team, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.26 ERA in five games.

The Commodores will practice Tuesday through Sunday for four weeks, culminating with the three game Black and Gold series the weekend of Oct. 14-16.

The practices will begin at 2:30 p.m. on weekdays and at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Game times for the Black and Gold series are set at 6 p.m. on Oct. 14-15 and 1 p.m. on the 16th. The Saturday game time (15th) is subject to change depending on any football schedule adjustments.

All practices and scrimmages are open to the public and fans are encouraged to attend.

“After the fall we should have a pretty good idea of where we stand,” added Corbin. “We will have an idea of how we stack up with two or three guys at each position. It’s going to be a puzzle that is going to be fun to put together.”
