NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt officials are planning several special activities around a “Nashville Night” promotion for the football season opener against Richmond on Saturday, Sept. 1.

“This is part of a University-wide initiative set forth back in March for Vanderbilt athletics to embrace our 134-year relationship with the Nashville community,” Director of Marketing Eric Nichols said. “We hope initiatives like this can help to tear down the metaphorical Magnolia curtain surrounding Vanderbilt and welcome our friends from across the middle Tennessee area to campus.”

Numerous special activities are planned for the “Nashville Night” promotion, including a post-game fireworks show, an appearance by the Veggietales, $1 hot dogs, a halftime punt/pass/kick competition with area mascots, and several Nashville-based bands performing in Vandyville prior to the game.

All tickets to the Richmond game, slated for a kickoff at 6 p.m., are $12.

Vanderbilt athletics will target several local groups for the Sept. 1 game including city employees, Middle Tennessee teachers, Boy Scouts organizations, and various Nashville-based non-profit agencies.

“It is important to our guys that we get a great crowd for our Richmond game,” said head football coach Bobby Johnson. “Nashville is a great city to live in and is even better for us as a recruiting advantage. I definitely think it is a good idea to thank the Nashville community for all of their support.”

Many other initiatives are planned for Nashville night and will be released when confirmed.

Season tickets are still on sale starting at $99 for end zone seats and $175 for all other sections. While all single game tickets are currently on sale now except for Alabama, the contest with the Crimson Tide will go on sale August 1st by phone (615-322-GOLD) and internet (vucommodores.com).

After the opener against Richmond, the Commodores start their SEC schedule by hosting Alabama and Ole Miss on Sept. 8 and Sept. 15, respectively. After a week off, Vanderbilt hosts Eastern Michigan on Sep. 29 before making its first road trip of the year to Auburn on Oct. 6.

In the second half of the upcoming season, Vanderbilt also hosts Georgia on Oct. 13, Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 27, Kentucky on Nov. 10, and Wake Forest in the finale on Nov. 24.

The team’s official fan day activity, Dore Jam, is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 12, starting at 4 p.m., at the squad’s practice facilities.
