Game Notes
– The teams met for the 58th time. With the win, the Commodores now trail Georgia 32-26 all-time. Vanderbilt has won nine of the past 12, including five in a row in Nashville.
– Vanderbilt won its ninth straight game. It’s the Commodores’ longest winning streak since they rattled off nine consecutive wins last season from Nov. 28, 2012 to Jan. 6, 2013.
– Vanderbilt improves to 8-4 in Southeastern Conference openers under coach Melanie Balcomb.
– For the third straight game, the Commodores started Heather Bowe, Kady Schrann, Christina Foggie, Jasmine Lister and Morgan Batey. Bowe, Lister and Foggie have started all 14 games. Schrann and Batey have made their first three starts of the season over the past three games.
– Attendance was 3,607.
Team Notes
– Vanderbilt trailed at halftime for only the third time this season. The Commodores are 2-1 when trailing at the break.
– The 24 points in the first half was Vanderbilt’s lowest in an opening half since scoring only 23 against Delaware State on Nov. 14.
– The Commodores’ stingy defense forced Georgia into a season-high 24 turnovers.
– For the first 27 minutes, neither team led by more than four points.
– The game changed leads 10 times and was tied five times.
– The Commodores went on a 21-7 run to erase a seven-point lead in the second half. Marqu’es Webb hit a layup with 3:45 left for a commanding 60-52 lead.
– Vanderbilt shot 40 percent (10-of-25) from the field in the first half and made just two of six 3-pointers.
– After the break, the Commodores were much improved, making 51.7 percent from the field (15-of-29). They also made 4-of-9 3-pointers after the break, with all four coming from Lister and Foggie.
– Vanderbilt outscored Georgia’s bench 16-5.
Player notes
– Senior Jasmine Lister scored 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. She also made all four free throw attempts and dished out four assists. She finished just two points shy of tying her season high and scored more than 20 points for the fourth time this season.
– Christina Foggie scored 11 points, marking the 12th time this season she has scored in double figures. She shares the team lead in that category with Lister.
– Lister and Foggie accounted for 24 of the Commodores’ 42 second-half points.
– Lister, Foggie and Heather Bowe led the team with five rebounds apiece.
– Morgan Batey, making her third straight start, scored seven points on 3-of-4 shooting in just 11 minutes due to foul trouble.
– Freshman Kylee Smith led the reserves with six points. She also picked up four rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.
