HOOVER, Ala. — Vanderbilt won the 2025 SEC Tournament on Sunday, defeating Ole Miss 3-2 at The Hoover Met.
The Commodores have won five SEC Tournaments, four under head coach Tim Corbin. Vandy has won three of the last six tournaments (2019, 2023, 2025).
Brodie Johnston earned Tournament MVP honors as a freshman, two years after RJ Austin was named MVP of the 2023 tournament as a freshman.
Johnston wasted no time getting the Commodores on the scoreboard. After Riley Nelson was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first, Johnston crushed a no-doubt, two-run blast to left field to put Vandy in front early.
Ole Miss got on the board in the top of the fifth after four shutout innings from starting pitcher Austin Nye. After a walk and hit-by-pitch, the Rebels cut into Vandy’s lead with an RBI single.
Luke Guth came on in relief with two outs and the tying run on third. Guth escaped the jam with a fly out to keep the Dores in front, 2-1.
Jacob Humphrey immediately got the run back in the home half of the fifth. Humphrey went opposite field, sneaking a solo homer inside the foul pole in right field to push Vandy’s advantage back to two.
Vandy’s bullpen secured the championship with one run on two hits allowed over the final four innings. Sawyer Hawks tossed the last two frames to earn the save. The Dores finished with 10 strikeouts as a staff.
The tournament champs went 3-0 in the tourney, beating Oklahoma 6-1 on Thursday and run-ruling Tennessee 10-0 in seven innings Saturday before taking the title game Sunday. Per the SEC, Vandy’s three runs allowed in three games is the fewest by an SEC Tournament champion. The Dores are the first team to allow fewer than five hits in three consecutive games in a single SEC Tournament and they’re the second champion to commit zero errors in the tournament.
Vanderbilt improves to 42-16 on the season. The Dores lock up an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, extending the nation’s longest active streak to 19 seasons. Vandy will find out its regional during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 11 a.m. CT.
