Tough Conditions Trouble Commodores

Vandy falls down leaderboard as heavy winds wreak havoc in California

LA QUINTA, Calif. — The second round of The Prestige was a struggle for Vanderbilt on Tuesday as it battled challenging conditions on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West.

Conditions became unplayable in the afternoon when play was suspended due to high winds at 5:08 CT before resuming at 6:30 p.m. CT. The round was officially called later in the evening.

A shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT Wednesday to begin the third round. The second round is scheduled to be completed before then Wednesday.

Vandy, which was tied for the lead after 18 holes, finished with a 27-over-par 311 and will start Wednesday in 10th before teams finish their respective second rounds.

Cole Sherwood had the best day of any Commodore with a 4-over-par 75. He sits at 5-over-par for the tournament is and tied for 15th overall.

Jackson Van Paris (tied for 79th) finished 7-over-par for his second round while Reid Davenport (tied for 21st) and Matthew Riedel (tie for 55th) were both 8-over-par. Gordon Sargent is tied for 85th after a second round 83.

Vanderbilt senior Harrison Ott, competing as an individual at The Prestige Individual Tournament at Coral Mountain Golf Club, was 5-over-par Tuesday. He’s tied for 11th overall going into Wednesday and six shots back of Pepperdine’s Ian Maspat.

California Davis (+14) has the overall team lead while Ludvig Aberg of Texas Tech is 2-under-par after 36 holes complete and is the individual leader.
