WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –The top-seeded Vanderbilt women’s tennis team is set to complete its fifth-straight appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 on Thursday at 3 p.m. CT, taking on the 16th-ranked/seeded Miami Hurricanes at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
Thursday’s match will be the Commodores’ 18thSweet 16 appearance and fifth straight. Vanderbilt advanced to the round of 16 following a 4-0 victory over Alabama State in the round of 64 and a 4-0 win over No. 41 Clemson in the Nashville regional championship.
With the win over Clemson, the Commodores boast a 24-3 overall record and capped the year with a unblemished 13-0 mark at the Currey Tennis Center. Heading to Winston-Salem, Vanderbilt went 5-2 against all remaining NCAA teams, defeating UGA, SC, Stanford, UNC, and Ole Miss. Additionally, Vanderbilt has defeated two No. 1 teams; Stanford (7-0) and UNC (4-3). The Commodores dropped matches against Northwestern (L, 4-2) and Pepperdine (L, 4-3).
Commodore Notables:
- Vanderbilt enters the NCAA round of 16 as the tournament’s top seed for the first time in program history
