NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Top-ranked Vanderbilt eased by UT-Martin 10-3 Tuesday night at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores jumped out to an early lead in the first inning sending nine men to the plate and scoring four runs on two hits. Jason Esposito’s RBI-double drove in the first run and Sam Lind’s two-run single capped the rally. Two more VU hits and a Skyhawks error led to two more runs in the third inning with Lind collecting his third RBI of the night with a single. Anthony Gomez extended his hitting streak to 21 games in his final at-bat of the night with a triple down the right field line to score Tony Kemp. Gomez scored the final run of the night on Aaron Westlake’s second single of the night. Lind paced the Dores’ offense going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. The two teams combined for eight errors on the night with UT-Martin committing five.
T.J. Pecoraro picked up the win pitching three innings and allowing one run on four hits. John Skubina was tagged with the loss for the Skyhawks giving up six runs, two earned, on three hits over 2.1 innings. Five Vanderbilt relievers combined to allow two runs, one earned, over the final six innings.
The Commodores return to the road this weekend in Southeastern Conference play visiting Auburn. Game time on Friday and Saturday night is 6 p.m. with Saturday’s game broadcast on CSS and streamed on ESPN3.com. Sunday’s first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
