Gunning earns second AAC weekly award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt lacrosse goalkeeper Paige Gunning earned American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

The sophomore from Severna Park, Maryland, has anchored the Commodores’ defense all season, most recently picking up two wins over AAC opponent Old Dominion.

In the April 1 victory, Gunning turned away 12 shots and added two ground balls. She followed up with seven saves in the 19-2 win on April 3. The two goals were the fewest allowed by Vandy in a conference game in program history.

Gunning leads the nation with 124 saves this season and is 19th nationally with a .492 save percentage.

It is the second time Gunning has won the award this season and first since Feb. 22.

For their play during the week, seniors Cassidy Orban and Gabby Fornia earned spots on the AAC Honor Roll.

The Commodores are back in action with games at Florida set for April 16 and 18.
