Tony Kemp's Amazing Catch

April 11, 2011

NASHVILLE – Freshman Tony Kemp made one of the all-time great catches in Vanderbilt history in the Commodores 11-6 win over #21 Alabama on Sunday. Kemp’s amazing play happened in the eighth inning of a four-run game with the bases loaded and two outs after the Crimson Tide had already rallied for three runs in the inning.

The catch ended the inning and the threat as the Dores rolled to a series sweep of the Tide. Vanderbilt has won a school record eight consecutive SEC games and the three-game series sweep over Alabama was the first since 1986. The largest crowd of the year saw Sunday’s victory with 3,357 fans at Hawkins Field. The three-game series attendance of 9,616 was the second-most in Hawkins Field history.

While the Commodores are off on Monday, fans can still get their fix as Coach Corbin’s Digitec Call-In Show premieres tonight at 6 p.m. CT from the Commodore Grille at the Holiday Inn Vanderbilt on West End Avenue. Joe Fisher hosts the interactive broadcast, which will air locally on 97.1 WRQQ-FM and can also be found online in All-Access.
