Tide rolls WTN 5-2

TUSCALOOSA. Ala. – The No. 23 Vanderbilt Commodores lost a 5-2 match to the No. 15 Alabama Crimson Tide Friday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

Nelly Radeva and Marie Casares battled their way into a doubles win on court three to prevent a sweep, but the Commodores lost the point as the #18 and #68 doubles pairs won 8-1 and 8-2, respectively, on courts one and two.

The Tide swept out to a 2-0 lead before Radeva beat her opponent, Taylor Lindsey, in straight sets for a 6-3, 6-2 win.

Alabama’s Alex Clay made it 3-1 Tide with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Alex Leatu. With Jackie Wu and Ashleigh Antal battling on courts one and five, Casares dropped her third set to Courtney McLane as Alabama clinched the match. Wu’s opponent, #23 Mary Anne Macfarlane, made it 5-1 Alabama after picking up her second and third sets for the 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win.

Antal, fighting through her sets against Antonia Foeshe, won her first one 7-5, lost the second set 5-7, and won the Dores’ second point for the 5-2 loss with a 1-0 ten-point tiebreaker third set.

Alabama remained undefeated in conference play with the win, while the Dores fell to 3-2, with their only other loss coming to then-No. 2 Florida.
