NASHVILLE, Tenn. — It was a flawless Friday doubleheader for No. 13 Vanderbilt women’s tennis as the Dores put together two shutout victories over Middle Tennessee and Austin Peay at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
The black and gold began the day up against the Blue Raiders, who came to Nashville having lost three in a row. Vanderbilt (8-2) pulled ahead early and never looked back, swiftly taking the doubles point before taking a lead at every position in singles. Three Commodores posted 6-0 first set scores. Middle Tennessee (1-4) falls to 0-9 in the all-time series. The 7-0 result is the fifth total shutout against the Blue Raiders.
Vandy then shifted its focus to Austin Peay, with the Governors bringing a three match streak into Music City. Despite a competitive match at the No. 1 position, the Dores netted 6-1 wins at Court 2 and 3 to secure the doubles point. Sophomore Trinetra Vijayakumar got the ball rolling for Vanderbilt with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. There was no slowing down the Dores as they continued the momentum, ultimately finishing off the match 6-0. Vijayakumar and sophomore Sophia Webster both remain unbeaten in dual match singles play.
