Three sign to women's tennis

Nov. 18, 2011

The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team welcomes three new members to their signing class, as Frances Altick, Courtney Colton, and Georgina Sellyn signed their national letters of intent to play for the Commodores in the 2012-2013 season.

‘We are very excited to have these three join our team next year,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald.

Altick, a native of Monroe, Louisiana, is a high school senior at Harold Solomon Tennis Institute. Currently ranked 13th nationally, she was ranked 11th at her highest by tennisrecruiting.com on October 26th. She’s No. 2 in the gulf states, and No. 1 in Louisiana with an overall record of 77-24.

Altick won the National Open in July 2011, taking home the tournament’s sportsmanship along with the title. She was also the recipient of the 2011 Louisiana Junior Achievement Award, a Top-5 athlete in Southerns in 18s, and a national Top-20 in the same age range.

Ranked No. 15 nationally, Colton was ranked 12th at her peak on August 10. The Fort Lauderdale native and senior from Saviano High Performance Tennis boasts a 53-19 record, and is ranked No. 7 in the southeast and No. 3 in her home state.

Colton brings with her an impressive track record. She is a two-time state closed singles and doubles winner, a two time national level two doubles winner, a national level two finalist, and a national level three winner.

Adding international flavor to the team will be Sellyn, a Great Britain resident of Glasgow. Upon moving to America from Scotland in 2009, she quickly moved up the ITF Junior rankings, going from No. 2000 to No. 240 within the span of a year. She trains in Florida while traveling to play at Junior ITF events and has begun competing in the women’s circuit events.
