Three Dores Named All-Americans

Veronica Fraley, Allyria McBride and Taiya Shelby received second-team All-America recognition

AUSTIN, Texas — On Thursday, the Vanderbilt women’s track and field team completed Day One of three at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Taiya Shelby opened the competition for the Commodores in the 400 meters, finishing 15th in the semifinals with a time of 51.63 seconds. For the third time in her collegiate career, she earned second-team All-America honors in the event.

In the 400-meter hurdles semifinals, Allyria McBride was the first freshman and 15th overall to cross the finish line, turning in a time of 57.19 seconds and receiving the title of second-team All-American.

In the same event, Brooke Overholt recorded a personal-best time of 55.77 seconds to finish second in her heat and fifth overall in the semifinals. She will compete again in the 400-meter hurdles final at 9:27 p.m. on Saturday.

Veronica Fraley PRed three times over the course of six throws to finish ninth in the shot put with a 17.84-meter mark. With that performance, she earned second-team All-America recognition for the second time in her collegiate career. On Saturday at 7:35 p.m., Fraley will compete in the discus final where she is seeded second with a 62.84-meter throw.

Day Two will kick off at 2:45 p.m. on Friday when Beatrice Juskeviciute and Jada Sims compete in the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles.
