Three Days Down

Vanderbilt swimming caps day three at SEC Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – The Vanderbilt swimming team wrapped up day three of the SEC Championships on Friday at the University of Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium with a number of strong performances.

Beginning the day with the prelims in the morning session, Tonner DeBeer posted the 25th-best time in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.16. For DeBeer, it was one of her top career performances in the event, just shy of her personal best of 54.10 set this season at Miami.

Behind DeBeer in the 100-yard butterfly for the Commodores was Eleanor Beers with a 55.75 finish.

Lizzy Colwell’s 100-yard breaststroke spurt of 1:01.73 was good for an NCAA B-cut and 26th in the prelims. It was less than a half second off her school-record time of 1:01.37 from last season’s SEC Championships. Lindsey Gordon followed with a lifetime-best 1:02.39.

DeBeer was also Vandy’s top finisher in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 55.09, with Gabriela Pierobon Mays not far behind in 55.36.

In the evening session, Pierobon Mays, Colwell, DeBeer and Eleanor Beers teamed up for a 400-yard medley relay time of 3:41.94 — good for third-best in program history.

With three days complete, Vanderbilt is in 12th place in the team competition with 124 points.

Saturday marks the fourth and final day of the SEC Championships. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. CT followed by the finals at 5 p.m. All sessions can be seen live on SEC Network+.
