Texas takes tournament

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 15 Texas Longhorns downed the No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores in the championship round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament held in Nashville, Tenn.

After claiming the doubles point, the Longhorns went on to win the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5 positions in singles, with Krista Damico clinching the match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Marie Casares.

Alex Leatu defeated Cierra Gaytan-Leach 6-4, 6-3 in the Dores’ lone win. Down 0-3 in her second set, Leatu roared back to win the match. Jackie Wu battled it out with Aeriel Ellis at the No. 1 position, winning the tiebreaker to take the first set 7-6(9-7).

Texas moves on to the ITA National Indoor Championships, while the Dores prepare to host Michigan on Febuary 3at 3:30 p.m. CT in their next dual match.
