NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wraps up its alumni weekend with a second consecutive top-25 tilt as No. 16 Texas visits for a Sunday rematch at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
Both teams come into Sunday with a win over Missouri and a loss to Texas A&M. Texas (6-3, 1-1 SEC) took down Vanderbilt (11-3, 1-1 SEC) 4-1 on Feb. 7 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship hosted by Illinois. It was the second straight win in the series for the Longhorns after picking up a 4-3 victory in Nashville last season. The all-time series between the two sits even at 2-2, with the Commodores notching wins in 2014 and 2015.
Vanderbilt suffered its first home loss to the No. 4 ranked Aggies, 5-2, on Friday. The Dores look to avoid back-to-back losses in Nashville for the first time since falling to Florida and South Carolina in the final two home matches of 2024. Vandy netted four ranked wins at home last season.
The black and gold secured an early advantage in their first matchup with Texas after taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. It was all Longhorns in singles play, however, as they strung together four straight wins to seal the match. Texas will be the fifth ranked matchup for the Commodores, with defending champion No. 1 Georgia to follow.
Freshman Erin Pearce extended her singles winning streak to seven against Texas A&M with the first ranked win of her career, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 over No. 125 Daria Smetannikov. Both Pearce and senior Bridget Stammel have reached double-digit singles wins in dual match play. Graduate Célia-Belle Mohr delivered her most dominant performance of the season on Friday, dismantling No. 35 Mia Kupres 6-0, 6-0. Mohr leads the team in dual match ranked victories with three.
Carmen Andreea Herea tops Texas in the ITA singles rankings at No. 3; she is joined by No. 21 Anastasia Abbagnato. In doubles, the Longhorns are led by No. 28 Abbagnato and Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo. The duo is 3-0 but has not competed as a doubles pairing since Feb. 6. No. 43 Herea and Elizabeth Ionescu round out the team in the doubles rankings.
First serve between Vanderbilt and No. 16 Texas is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Lummis Family Tennis Center. Live streaming is available online with live stats accessible here.
