NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt tennis members Jordan Magarik and Amanda Taylor were named to the 2007 SEC Community Service team, formerly the Good Works team, Monday afternoon.

About Jordan Magarik
, Senior/Winchester, VA
Magarik is a 3-time SEC Service team member. The men’s tennis senior has done extensive work in medical-related service. Magarik is currently logging volunteer hours researching ways to prevent vasospasm (constricting of blood vessels) with those that have had aneurysms (vasospasm kills about 15-25% off post aneurysmal hemorrhage patients) in conjunction with VU’s department of Neurosurgery and Molecular Physiology.
Magarik has taken his valuable medical knowledge outside the lab and into the lives of those that need it most. In the summer of 2006, Magarik spent a month in Uganda working with a non-governmental organization that provides clinical care and support to Ugandans with HIV/Aids. He has also logged over 70 hours in the Georgetown hospital.
On the court, Magarik leads the team in doubles wins with partner Andy Mack. The senior pair recently went undefeated in doubles and singles through the last two conference contests.

About Amanda Taylor,
Junior/Richland, WA
Amanda Taylor has demonstrated her dedication to the Nashville community with her work with Preston Taylor ministries, an inner-city organization that offers after-school activities and other programs for local youth.
Taylor is currently organizing a tennis camp for the charity, in addition to serving as an after school tutor.
Taylor has also volunteered at the Vanderbilt children’s hospital and is an active member the Harpeth Hills Church of Christ community service program.
On the court, Taylor has had a breakthrough season. The junior recently moved up to No. 2 in Commodore lineup and has posted an outstanding 10-1 conference record.
