TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lauren Mira and Courtney Colton fell in the doubles final of the “Robin Stephenson Draw” to Clemson, 8-4, as the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up action at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, Saturday.
The No. 6 doubles team of Mira and Colton won their second round match over Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett of Northwestern, 8-7 (6), to advance to the final. In the third and final round, Mira and Colton fell to Rompies and Gumulya of Clemson, 8-4.
Maggie Leavell who was paired up with Ole Miss’ Allie Robbins, won their second round match 8-7 (5) over MTSU, before falling in the final to Sze Leung of Northwestern and Speaks of Furman.
The `Dores performed much better in singles in the second and final day of action. Both Colton and Mira won their third round matches. No. 51 Mira defeated Masa Grgan of Georgia State after losing both her first and second round matches, Friday.
Colton, knocked off her second opponent in two days, defeating Alex Moreno-Kaste of Furman, 6-0, 6-1.
Maggie Leavell lost her match to Sarah Gail Niebur of Samford, 6-3, 6-3.
