NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt dropped Sunday’s series finale 5-0 to Tennessee at Hawkins Field. The Commodores move to 20-7 on the season, including a 4-5 mark in Southeastern Conference play.
Vanderbilt starting pitcher Patrick Reilly worked 5.0 solid innings for the Dores. He allowed just one run on two hits while striking out four.
Tennessee put two on with nobody out in the top of the third, but Reilly got a strikeout and groundout to escape the jam.
The Volunteers took a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the fourth. Tennessee put two more runners on in the inning but Reilly once again was able to limit the damage.
Christian Little took over on the mound to start the top of the sixth. Little went 2.0 innings and was touched for one run on two hits as Tennessee took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single in the top of the seventh.
The Volunteers made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the top of the eighth. With runners on first and second with one out, Thomas Schultz made a nice diving catch in front of the mound and doubled up the runner on first to end the inning.
Tennessee tacked on two more runs on three hits in the top of the ninth to take the series finale 5-0.
Vanderbilt is back in action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT against Austin Peay at Hawkins Field. The game will be aired on SEC Network+.
