NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt swim host its second meet of the season, Saturday, against national powerhouse Texas A&M from the Centennial Sportsplex. For Vandy it is their second meet in three weeks against one of the top teams from the Southeastern Conference. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
The Commodores have two weeks of practice under their belts following their 158-44 loss to Auburn. Carrie Bencic and Elly Faulkner highlighted that meet for the ‘Dores, picking up a pair of second-place finishes.
The Aggies will open their season Saturday in Nashville. The conference runner-up and fourth-place finisher at NCAA’s returns some outstanding swimmers from 2013.
Breeja Larson and Cammile Adams highlight the 21 returners from the Aggies last season. Both Larson (100-yard breaststroke) and Adams (200-yard butterfly) were NCAA Champions and won at World Trials before participating in the World Championships last summer.
Vandy head coach Jeremy Organ thinks this will be a great opportunity for his finalists from a season ago: Lauren Torres, Chrissy Oberg and Faulkner.
“A&M is a really talented team,” said Organ. “This will be good for Lauren, Chrissy and Elly to swim against some of the best swimmers in the conference and see where they stack up and what they need to do to compete come SEC’s”
Following the Aggies on Saturday, the Commodores will hit the road for the first time in 2013 for a dual meet with Tulane on November 2, followed by a meet at Liberty on November 8.
This will be the last opportunity to catch the Commodores at Centennial in 2013 as the next time they host a meet it will be after the New Year on January 18 against West Florida and Liberty.
