NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The streaking No. 19-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team hosts No. 17 Alabama on Sunday at the Lummis Tennis Center.
Both teams enter tomorrow’s contest winners of eight straight. It is the highest-ranked matchup between the two schools since No. 10 Vanderbilt upset No. 9 Alabama 4-3 in 2015. The Dores hold a 33-20 advantage over the Crimson Tide, including 11 victories in the last 12 meetings.
Vanderbilt inches closer to the program’s consecutive dual match wins record of 12, set in 2002 and reached again in 2007. Sophomore Valeria Ray’s 13-match win streak has paved the way for the Dores, who now have four total players on singles streaks of three wins or more. Vandy has clinched the doubles point in nine of its 10 total matches.
Alabama makes its way to Music City after taking down Missouri 4-1 on Friday. The Crimson Tide are led in singles wins by Sara Nayar, who primarily plays out of the No. 5 position. Nayar brings a streak of her own into Nashville, having won nine singles matches in a row. Nayar, along with Klara Milicevic, top the Tide in doubles wins with a 9-2 record together this season. Petra Sedlackova is Alabama’s lone ranked player at No. 84 in singles. She also holds the Crimson Tide’s only ranked win, a 6-2, 6-4 result over No. 27 Cristina Tiglea of Baylor on Sep. 25.
No. 19 Vanderbilt (9-1, 2-0 SEC) faces Alabama (8-2, 2-0 SEC) with play set to begin at 1 p.m. Live streaming will be available online, with live stats accessible here at the start of the match.
