Strong Saturday

Dores stay strong in singles, Sophia Webster extends streak

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 18 ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team netted six wins in nine total matches against Baylor and No. 16 Tennessee at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville on Saturday.

Vandy opened singles play against the Bears with first set leads at each court. Sophomore Sophia Webster secured the first victory of the day for the black and gold at the No. 5 spot, quickly downing Luna Ivkovic 6-0, 6-2. Webster is now 3-0 in singles to begin 2026. She also owns a five match win streak, marking the longest singles streak of her career so far. Graduate Célia-Belle Mohr followed suite at the top position for Vanderbilt, moving past Kennedy Gibbs 6-2, 6-2. Mohr continued her serving prowess from the fall, going 7-1 in service games while generating four aces throughout the match.

Sophomore Trinetra Vijayakumar picked up the third singles victory for the Commodores in a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Gabrielle Villegas. Freshman Erin Pearce produced a 6-3, 6-4 win against Neda Rahumkhani to get Vanderbilt to 4-0 on the day, and junior Valeria Ray made it five straight wins for the Dores soon after with a 6-3, 6-3 victory versus Alian Zack. No. 36 ranked Mia Yamakita pulled ahead 6-2 in the first set matched up with Baylor’s No. 99 Mu-Jie Tzeng on Court 3, but it was Tzeng who shifted the momentum to close the match. The Bear overcame a 5-3 deficit in the second set, taking the frame 7-5 before finishing out the match with a 6-2 third set over Yamakita for Baylor’s lone singles win.

The Dores matched up against Tennessee in doubles play, rolling out the same pairings as Friday. After the top two positions fell just short, Pearce and Webster ended the day on a high note with a 6-4 comeback victory against the Volunteers’ Maive Thornton and Saray Yli-Piipari. The Commodore duo have won back-to-back matches after not competing in doubles together throughout the entire fall season.

Vanderbilt rounds out the final day of the UT Invite on Sunday against Arizona State in doubles at 10:30 a.m. before a final round of singles versus Tennessee at 11:30 a.m. For more information, updates and exclusive content, follow the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team, @VandyWTennis, on Instagram and X.
