MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team concluded the second day of the Coach LaLance Invite with two doubles victories and five singles victories Saturday at the Adams Tennis Complex at Middle Tennessee.
Commanding an eager start, the Commodores opened Day Two with doubles play where two Commodore pairs collected wins.
In singles, six Dores claimed the first set in their respective matches and five Commodores finished with victories.
Facing Middle Tennessee’s Sean Presson, Virtanen commanded the lead with a 6-3 victory in the first set. In the second set, Virtanen remained confident to defeat Presson 6-3.
Fellow senior Rowe held Middle Tennessee’s Pavel Motl to only four games in each set to earn a straight set victory 6-4, 6-4.
In the first set against Middle Tennessee’s Slump, Harwell overpowered Slump, 6-3. Claiming the match, Harwell took down Stijn Slump, 6-1 in the second set.
Remaining undefeated, Freeman defeated Moonen in straights sets, 6-3, 7-6.
Sophomore Christiaan Worst held Rauch to two games in the first set followed by notching the win over with a 7-6 victory in the second.
After the conclusion of Day Two, four Dores remain undefeated in the invite – Freeman, Harwell, Rowe and Virtanen.
Vanderbilt will return to action at 10 a.m. Sunday against Memphis.
