Hall of Fame assistant coach Mickie DeMoss enters her first year with the Vanderbilt women’s basketball program, serving as the Commodores’ new Director of Offensive Analytics for head coach Stephanie White.
DeMoss, a 40-year veteran of women’s basketball, joins the Commodores after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at LSU.
“I am happy to be joining Stephanie’s basketball program in Nashville,” DeMoss said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Vanderbilt women’s basketball and look forward to doing all I can to help Stephanie get this program back competing at the highest levels.”
White said DeMoss brings a career of basketball expertise and winning tradition to West End.
“Mickie DeMoss is a proven basketball mind who adds immediate championship pedigree to our Vanderbilt staff,” White said. “She has won at every stop of her career through four decades in women’s basketball, including in the WNBA. We are so excited to add Mickie to our staff in Nashville.”
DeMoss comes to Vanderbilt following stints at a number of SEC schools, including two stops at Tennessee under legendary head coach Pat Summitt. DeMoss helped the Lady Vols win five NCAA titles during her stay in Knoxville.
The Louisiana native also spent time as a head coach in the SEC at Florida (1979-83) and Kentucky (2003-07). DeMoss garnered SEC Coach of the Year honors in 2006 after leading the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven seasons.
Prior to her most recent stop at LSU, DeMoss also served as an assistant coach at Auburn, Louisiana Tech, Memphis State and Texas. She spent time with Coach White as an assistant with the WNBA’s Indiana Fever from 2012-14, helping the Fever win the 2012 WNBA Championship.
A former three-year letterwinner at Louisiana Tech, DeMoss played on the inaugural Lady Techster team in 1974, becoming the first point guard in the history of the program.
In 2018, DeMoss was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame as an assistant coach.
