Jordan Matthews

Offensive Consultant

Jordan Matthews, one of the most productive wide receivers in Commodore history, joined to Commodore coaching staff in 2025 as an offensive consultant.

During his time as a Commodore, Matthews set records that still hold today, including single-season receptions (112 in 2013), and career receptions (262). Matthews still ranks first in SEC history for total catches.

The Alabama native set the program record for receiving yards in a single season in 2013 with 1,477, breaking his own record he set the previous year with 1,323 in 2012. After a four-year career in black and gold, Matthews recorded 3,759 total receiving yards which broke a program record that was set by Gerald Mitchell (2,964, 1985-88) and still ranks second in SEC history.

During his senior campaign in 2013, Matthews posted nine 100-yard receiving games, again breaking his own record of seven set in 2012. For his career, Matthews tallied 19 100-plus games, eight more than the second-place holder.

Named the 2013 BBVA Compass Bowl MVP, Matthews caught two 50-yard-touchdowns from Patton Robinette as the Commodores topped Houston, 41-24. Matthews capped his Vanderbilt career being named 2013 All-SEC First Team, 2013 First Team All-America WR by USA Today and Athlon, 2013 Second Team All-America by Associated Press, SI.com and CBSSports.com and named a 2013 Biletnikoff Award Semifinalist.

Matthews was selected in the second-round of the 2014 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 42nd overall pick. The Eagles traded up four spots to draft him and he went on to sign a four-year contract. Matthews scored his first and second career touchdowns in a Week 3 matchup against Washington and posted his first professional 100-yard receiving game against Carolina.

The Eagles traded Matthews to the Buffalo Bills ahead of the 2017 season. He made his Buffalo debut against the New York Jets where he had two catches and caught his first touchdown as a Bill the following weekend.

Matthews spent 10 seasons at the NFL level before returning to Vanderbilt in a volunteering role.
