Spaces are still available for the final week of the Vanderbilt tennis camp, June 22-26.

This month has been busy at the Currey Tennis Center as our coaching staff has continued their passion for coaching into the summer by helping guide girls and boys ages 7-18 through a week of learning, competition, friendship, and lasting memories on the court!       

Coaches Geoff Macdonald and Aleke Tsoubanos will led weeks one and two, while coaches Ian Duvenhage and Jamie Hunt are been led last week, and our final session, June 22-26.

9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday

$395 for registering online

$420 for walk-ups

Check-in/Registration

Check in will be between 8:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. each morning. Campers must check in upon their arrival. Any walk-up campers must register Monday morning of each week.

What to Bring

Campers should bring a racket, non-marking tennis shoes, sunscreen, water bottle or jug, and a sack lunch daily. Hats or visors and a towel are also recommended.

Ages

Girls and boys between the ages of 7-18 are welcome to all weeks. Camp is for players of all levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Camp Highlights

Coaching fundamentals: stroke analysis, footwork, proper technique and grips, strategy.

   * Singles and doubles match play

   * Davis Cup style competition on Friday

   * Teaching aids such as ball machine and back board

   * Daily instruction and drills, individually and in small groups

   * Fun games that help development

 

Nationally Recognized Camp Directors

Geoff Macdonald, Vanderbilt Women’s Head Coach

Vanderbilt’s longest tenured coach in his 21st season, MacDonald has transformed the women’s tennis program guiding the `Dores to their first NCAA and SEC Championships in 2015. This season Macdonald was named the Wilson/ITA National Coach of the Year, and was voted the SEC Coach of the Year be his peers.

Macdonald has transformed the women’s tennis program into one known for players’ rapid improvement, commitment to coaching and unrivaled academic excellence. During his coaching career, MacDonald has been named the SEC Coach of the Year three times (1991, 2000, and 2015), and taken his Vanderbilt teams to ten Sweet 16s, the Elite 8, Final 4, and the NCAA Finals twice. Before he came to Nashville, Macdonald coached at Duke and LSU. After his collegiate career at UVA, he played the Pro Tour for three years earning world rankings in singles and doubles.

Ian Duvenhage, Vanderbilt Men’s Head Coach

Duvenhage is in his 10th year at the helm of the Vanderbilt men’s program. This season Duvenhage was voted the ITA Ohio Valley Coach of the Year after leading the `Dores to their best SEC record during his time in Nashville. Prior to arriving at Vanderbilt, he coached several players on the ATP pro tour for four years. He has 20 years of collegiate coaching experience (at the University of Miami and Florida) and was named Coach of the Year in 1986. He has been voted SEC Coach of the Year and Regional Coach of the Year three times each and has coached his players to two national titles each in singles and in doubles. The 2013 team made the Sweet Sixteen and finished the year ranked #15 in the country.

Aleke Tsoubanos, Vanderbilt Women’s Associate Head Coach

Aleke is in her eighth season at Vanderbilt, and first as the associate head coach of the 2015 NCAA Champion Vanderbilt women’s tennis team. Tsoubanos is one of the most decorated players in Vanderbilt history, becoming a 3 time All American and also earning All-SEC and NCAA Tournament honors. She has represented the Ohio Valley Region three times as its Assistant Coach of the Year, and was voted the 2015 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year. Tsoubanos played professional tennis for three years reaching a career high ranking of #126 and playing two seasons of World Team Tennis for the St. Louis Aces.

Jamie Hunt, Vanderbilt Men’s Associate Head Coach

Jamie enters his fifth season at Vanderbilt, and first as the men’s tennis team’s associate head coach. With the leadership and guidance of Hunt, Vanderbilt capped its 2014 season ranked No. 24 by the ITA. The Commodores compiled a 20-8 overall record, and 8-4 mark in SEC play. Last season Hunt was named the 2014 Ohio Valley Assistant Coach of the Year. Hunt graduated from the University of Georgia where he was an ITA All-American and 4-time All-SEC selection. He was instrumental in helping his team win back-to-back NCAA championships in 2007 and 2008. This will be Jamie’s fourth year teaching camp.
