Souza Repeats as Freshman of the Week

The freshman scored a second-straight hat trick

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt freshman Maddie Souza was crowned American Athletic Freshman of the Week for the second straight week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Souza followed an impressive week with another strong performance against Cincinnati last Saturday. She recorded her second-career hat trick with three goals on just four shots.

She also added two assists for a career-high five points.

This comes a week after Souza scored her first career-hat trick with three goals in Vanderbilt’s 22-15 win against UConn. In that game, all three of her goals came on three shots.

Souza becomes the second Commodore to win multiple Freshman of the Week honors this season, following Bri Gross (twice). They are two of only three AAC freshmen to win the award multiple times.

The Commodores wrap up their regular season Saturday in Nashville against Temple for Senior Day. Saturday’s matchup will be free admission and can be viewed on Facebook.com/VanderbiltAthletics.
