Soccer hosts UT on Senior Night

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt soccer team will close its season Thursday night against Tennessee at the VU Soccer Complex. The ‘Dores will honor the teams eight seniors before they play their final match in Nashville. The senior night festivities will begin at 5:40 p.m., with the match beginning at 6 p.m.

Vanderbilt will honor Abby Carr, Claire Romaine, Duggan Hahn, Grace Stumb, Megan Schneir, Sarah Hook, Kendra Hendrix and Alexa Levick. Each, with the exception of Carr and Hendrix, have played with the Commodores for four years and were freshmen in now head coach Derek Greene’s first year as an assistant at Vandy.

The ‘Dores welcome in the Lady Vols, who are looking to keep their SEC tournament hopes alive. Tennessee needs to win in Nashville, Thursday, and receive some help in order to make the 10-team tournament.

Vandy holds a slim advantage over UT all-time. The Commodores are 9-8-3 against the Lady Vols, including 4-3-1 when playing in the Music City.

Sophomore Cheyna Williams has put together one of the best offensive seasons for the Commodores in 15 years, and stands three goals shy of the school record 19 goals scored in a singles year. Laura Koerner set the mark in 1998, playing in 23 games. Williams, through only 17 games, is tied for second with 16 goals.

Coach Greene’s team is coming off an tough two-loss weekend to 13th-ranked South Carolina and Auburn, both on the road. Tennessee went 0-1-1 last weekend with a loss to No. 7 Florida and a draw with Missouri.
