Soccer falls to No. 35 Missouri, 3-0

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri broke a 0-0 contest with three second half goals en route to a 3-0 win over Vanderbilt Friday night at the Audrey Walton Soccer Complex.

The loss was the first for the Commodores this season as they dropped to 5-1, while the Tigers, ranked No. 35 by Top Drawer Soccer, improved to 3-2 on the season.

The teams battled to a scoreless draw in an evenly contested first half. VU held a 9-7 shot advantage and a 3-1 corner kick lead.

Missouri came out and took control in the second half, beginning with Alysha Bonnick’s goal at the 58:13 mark to put the Tigers ahead 1-0. Meghan Pfeiffer’s header goal at the 78:03 point made it 2-0 while Mallory Stipetich’s goal in the 84th minute closed out the game.

Tiger goalkeeper Tasha Dittamore made seven saves to record her third shutout in five games this year. Commodore keeper Rachel Bachtel faced nine shots and made six saves.

Missouri had an 11-5 shot lead in the second half and finished the game with an 18-14 lead. It marked the first time this year VU has been outshot.

Megan Forester led the Commodores with four shots, including three on goal, while Bonnick led the Tigers with five shots, three on goal.

Vanderbilt will close out its four-game road swing against Saint Louis Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hermann Stadium. The Billikens (3-1-1) also dropped their first game of the year Friday night falling at home to Butler 2-0.

The Commodores will then return home to start a five game home stand next Sunday, Sept. 21 against UAB.
