Vanderbilt Soccer Closes Out Regular Season at Kentucky
Vanderbilt will close out its regular season campaign this weekend against neighboring rival Kentucky. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 ET start in Lexington and will be broadcast regionally on Fox Sports Net for the second straight year.

vs. Kentucky: Vanderbilt leads 12-8 in the oldest series in the SEC.
The Commodores won 1-0 last year and have won the last two meetings after the Wildcats had a 5-0 run from 1999-2003.

VU’s Ronnie Coveleskie is 68-59-23 in her eighth season overall as a head coach and is 53-38-21 in six seasons in Nashville.

Team Tidbits
With Sunday’s win over Mississippi State, Vanderbilt has produced double-digit wins in back to back seasons for the first time since 1997-98. It is also the first time since then the Commodores have produced back-to-back winning seasons … The Commodores have nine shutouts in 18 games this year and 25 shutouts in 40 games over the last two years … Amy Baumann has scored six of her seven season goals in the last five goals and all seven of her goals in the last eight games. She was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and also to Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week and to Soccer Buzz’ Elite Team of the Week … Tyler Griffin recorded her seventh and eighth solo shutouts of the year over the weekend and now has 31 in her career. Griffin is first in the SEC in save percentage (.882) and second in goals against average (0.55) … Nicole Lukens scored her fourth goal of the year in the Commodores win over Mississippi State on Sunday. She is third on the team in goals and leads the squads freshmen class in scoring … Sophomore Katie Schulz scored her first goal of the year against Mississippi State … With a win or tie against Kentucky on Friday, the Commodores will assure themselves of a second place finish overall in the SEC. It would be the team’s highest conference finish since finishing first in the SEC East in 1997 with a 7-1 league record. A Florida loss to South Carolina, coupled with a Vandy win would give the Commodores a share of the SEC overall crown, an accomplishment last done in 1994.

Scouting Kentucky
Kentucky is 9-63 overall and 4-3-2 in SEC play after defeating Mississippi State and tying Ole Miss last weekend.

Senior goalkeeper Anne Ogundele leads the conference with 11 shutouts and an 0.53 goals against average.

Giuleana Lopez leads the team with nine goals and three assists for 21 points.

The Wildcats are currently in last place in the SEC East and enter Friday’s game in the eighth and final spot for the SEC tournament next week in Orange Beach, Ala.

Baumann Offensive Fireworks Earns Weekly Awards
Junior forward Amy Baumann was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s and Soccer Buzz’ National Team of the Week and was also named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week today after leading the Commodores offensive attack with three goals in two wins over the weekend.

Baumann scored both goals in the Commodores 2-0 win over Ole Miss last Friday in Nashville and then scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in the team’s 4-0 win over Mississippi State on Sunday in Starkville.

The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native has been on an offensive tear, having scored six of her seven goals on the year in the last five games. She has scored the game-winning goal in the last team’s last four victories, which has vaulted them into second place overall in the SEC. Baumann is now the leading scorer on the team with seven goals and three assists for 17 points.

It is the first time she has picked up a weekly honor in her career and the third time this season a Vanderbilt player has been awarded by the SEC. Sarah Dennis was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 and Tyler Griffin was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10.

Griffin Breaks School Shutout Record
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Griffin set a new school record for shutouts in a season with 29 after the 0-0 scoreless draw against Auburn on Oct. 1.

Griffin came into the season with 23 career shutouts and notched her sixth of the season against the Tigers to break Christy Barringer’s school record of 28.5 set from 1992-95.

Griffin was one of 25 student-athletes named to the initial Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

She was one of three keepers named to the Watch List for an honor that recognizes the top women’s soccer player in the country. In addition, she was one of three players from the Southeastern Conference named to the list along with defender Melanie Booth of Florida and Ali Christoph of Tennessee.

The Charlotte, N.C., native was an NSCAA All-American and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 after helping lead the Commodores to one of their best season’s in school history. She finished the year with a 0.43 goals against average and was in net for a school record 16 shutouts. Included in that span was a school record 559 consecutive scoreless minutes streak.

In addition to being named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, Griffin was also named a Preseason All-American by the NSCAA, Soccer Buzz and Soccer America.

Since breaking the record, the senior has added two more solo shutouts against Ole Miss and Mississippi State to give her 31 for her career. She played 82 minutes of a 2-0 win over South Carolina on Oct. 10. Including that game she has been in net for five SEC shutouts in 10 games and nine shutouts overall.
