Commodores head to Texas for three-day tournament

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Fresh off its championship at the Northeast Classic, Vanderbilt continues its season Friday in Arlington, Texas, at the Prairie View Invitational held at the International Training and Research Center.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Standard collegiate play format starts at 12:15 p.m. Friday, continues at 9:25 a.m. Saturday and concludes 8:30 a.m. Sunday with one traditional game to complete the round robin followed by two best-of-seven bracket games starting at 9:50 a.m.

COMPETING TEAMS

Arkansas State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Louisiana Tech, McKendree, Nebraska, North Carolina A&T, Prairie View A&M, Sacred Heart, Sam Houston State, Tulane, Vanderbilt and Youngstown State.

LAST TIME OUT

It was an up, down and up again ride at the Northeast Classic for the fifth-ranked Commodores who earned the 2-seed in the 18-team tournament and recovered from a slow start in Sunday’s bracket play when it hit on a rotation of Mabel Cummins, Angelica Anthony, Caroline Thesier, Angelique Dalesando and Paige Peters and topped Youngstown State and McKendree, respectively, to win the title.

PRAIRIE VIEW INVITATIONAL HISTORY

Vanderbilt has attended this tournament for many years and accordingly has had varied finishes.

In 2020 Vandy lost in the championship match to Arkansas State 4-2. The tournament was not conducted last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
