NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Black scored early and held on late to defeat Gold, 4-2, in Game 2 of the David Williams Fall Classic and even the series ahead of Friday’s Game 3 finale.
RJ Austin opened the scoring with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. Austin also doubled in the win.
Black put up three more runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a two-run homer by Brodie Johnston, his second long ball of the series.
Alex Kranzler got the start on the mound and tossed three shutout innings for Black, striking out four batters.
Gold battled back in the sixth inning, plating a run on a single by David Mendez. Gold cut Black’s lead to 4-2 with a bases-loaded walk by Koby Kropf.
Sawyer Hawks took over on the mound in the sixth with one out and the bases loaded. Hawks got out of the jam and held Gold scoreless in the top of the seventh to get Black the 4-2 victory.
Game 3 of the David Williams Fall Classic will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Field.
