GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team concluded the first day of the Debbie Southern Fall Classic by collecting four victories.
Opening in doubles, veteran Commodore pair Georgia Drummy and Christina Rosca tabbed their first victory as a pair this season with an 8-4 win over Florida state duo Salas and Allen to secure their spot in the semifinals of their respective flight.
In the second round of doubles, Drummy and Rosca faced North Carolina’s Jones and Morra. The North Carolina pair claimed a close 8-7 (6) victory over Furman’s Kozarov and Adams to advance to the semifinals. Securing their spot in the finals, the North Carolina pair held Drummy and Rosca to two games to win the match, 8-2.
In singles, two Commodores notched spots in the semifinals of their respective flights.
In the first round of singles, freshman Anna Ross claimed her second consecutive victory as a Commodore. The freshman took down Clemson’s Zaina Nait Omar in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, marking her third collegiate victory.
Ross will face Florida State’s Andrea Garcia in the semifinals on Saturday.
Junior Amanda Meyer remains perfect in the fall season collecting her fourth consecutive win in a battle against Georgia Tech’s Nami Otsuka. Meyer dominated to claim a straight set victory over Otsuka, 7-5, 6-2. With this win, Meyer secures her spot in the semifinals of her respective flight.
Meyer will take on Tennessee’s Tenika McGiffin on Saturday in the semifinals.
The Commodores will continue in the Debbie Southern Fall Classic on Saturday opening with one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles.
