MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Georgina Sellyn advanced to Tuesday’s final of 2013 USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships with her semifinal win over Eve Repic of Tennessee.
After dropping the opening set, 3-6, to the UT freshman, Sellyn fought back and won the next two sets 6-4, 6-2 to take the match and move to the finals.
No. 71 Sellyn will play No. 26 Nadia Ravita from The Racquet Club of Memphis on Tuesday with a trip to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships on the line.
“Georgina was getting pushed around early,” said assistant coach Aleke Tsoubanos. “I give her so much credit though, she never gave in. She keep competing the whole match even when Repic came up with shot after shot. She’s had so much success in this tournament and it is a testament to the to all the hard work she’s put in on her game and fitness. I am very proud of her.”
Ashleigh Antal dropped her semifinal match to top-seeded and No. 26 Nadia Ravita of Kentucky, 6-4, 7-6 (6). Earlier in the day Antal defeated fifth-seed Julia Fellerhoff of Louisville, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
“I’m so pround of Ashleigh’s effort today,” said Tsoubanos. “She had some opportunities to pull through but fell just a bit short. Credit Ravita for playing some big points extremely well. Ash is getting better with every match she plays and she is putting together a very good fall.”
Marie Casares’ run in the Ohio Valley Regional came to an end in the quarterfinal round. Eighth-seeded Casares was defeated by Ravita, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.
“Marie lost a tough match,” Tsoubanos said. “Ravita was flawless in the first set but I’m proud of how she hung in and regrouped in the second. She had some chances in the third up 3-1, but credit Ravita once again for playing a great match down the stretch.”
