NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Demand for Vanderbilt football season tickets continues strong, with total sales surpassing 2007 final figures on Monday, athletic officials said.
With more than a month remaining until the Commodores’ home opener against South Carolina, 15,385 season tickets have been sold through Monday, Athletic Ticket Manager Eric Jones said. Last year, 15,171 season tickets were sold for Vanderbilt’s eight-game home schedule. The 2007 total was the most sold by Vanderbilt athletics since 1996.
“We’re extremely pleased to surpass last year’s total, especially with virtually an entire month to go before the home opener,” Jones said. “The home schedule is tremendous and is a factor for the increase. But we’re seeing new season ticket buyers that are enthusiastic about Coach (Bobby) Johnson’s team and how we’ve upgraded the gameday experience.”
The Commodores open the season on the road, traveling to Oxford, Ohio on Thursday, August 28, to face the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks.
The Vanderbilt home schedule is impressive. Southeastern Conference opponents include South Carolina, Sept. 4; Auburn, Oct. 4; Florida, Nov. 8; and Tennessee, Nov. 22. Non-conference teams visiting Vanderbilt Stadium are Rice on Sept. 20 and Duke on Oct. 25.
The current pace is well ahead of sales total from 2006, the same time South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee visited the Vanderbilt campus in the same season. The level through Monday was 4,018 more than the 2006 total season ticket sales of 11,367.
Jones sees no reason that season ticket sales will ease. “Traditionally, August is our strongest sales month. We’ve been consistently strong for the last six weeks. Our phones are busy and our on-line business is picking up. That trend should continue.”
If season ticket sales levels continue, a limited availability of single-game tickets are projected for Vanderbilt’s SEC games, particularly the Commodore encounters against Auburn and Tennessee. Last year, short supplies of single-game tickets to the Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky games were available because of increased season ticket sales. Those three games eventually sold out, with the Alabama tickets selling in 32 minutes after being available.
Any single-game tickets available for the Tennessee game will not go on sale until Sept. 1.
Ticket orders for the Vanderbilt campaign start at $99. Orders are available on the web at www.vucommodores.com, at the athletic box office in McGugin Center on campus, or by phoning (615) 322-GOLD.
