ATLANTA, Ga. – Vanderbilt tight end Steven Scheu was named All-Southeastern Conference by a panel of Associated Press members.

Scheu, a redshirt junior from Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Ind., was named as a second team All-SEC recipient by the AP.

Scheu set career highs with 39 receptions, 525 receiving yards and four touchdown catches. He was the Commodore leader in receptions and yardage, and was tied with wide receiver C.J. Duncan for the team lead in touchdown catches.

Scheu’s receptions total also topped all SEC tight ends and was the most posted by a Vanderbilt tight end since 1985. His receiving yardage total ranked second in the conference behind Evan Engram of Ole Miss and was the highest single-season total by a Commodore since 1983.

Scheu becomes the first Vanderbilt tight end to earn All-SEC recognition from the AP since Brandon Barden was selected as a second-team pick in 2010. The last Commodore tight end to earn first team recognition was Pat Akos in 1992.

The SEC Coaches’ All-SEC team will be announced Tuesday, with conference individual honors coming on Wednesday and the Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC team being released on Thursday.
