KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team did not drop a match across singles or doubles play in a spotless Saturday from the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships hosted by Tennessee.
No. 12 ranked graduate Célia-Belle Mohr and sophomore Sophia Webster, the tournament’s top doubles seed, began the day for the Dores, downing Southern Indiana’s Antonia Ferrarini and Rylie Wilkison 8-1. Vandy followed suite with No. 37 ranked and No. 4 seeded junior Valeria Ray and senior Bridget Stammel, defeating Sophia Baranov and Katie Oliver of Austin Peay 8-3. The No. 43 duo of freshmen Erin Pearce and Mia Yamakita, the No. 3 seed, also opened Saturday with a victory, 8-2, over Cincinatti’s Gabrielle Guenther and Tara Kurepa.
In the second round of doubles matches on the day, Mohr and Webster continued the momentum with an 8-3 result against No. 9 seeded Alessandra Caceres and Ksenija Rage from East Tennessee State. Ray and Stammel notched their second doubles win moments after, holding on 8-6 versus Kentucky’s Zoe Hammond and Reese Sager. Pearce and Yamakita rounded out the doubles action with another Vanderbilt victory, moving past Addison Iacono and Rufaro Magarira of Chattanooga 8-4.
The Dores kept rolling in singles play. Webster secured a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win against Kurepa and Yamakita followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over East Tennessee State’s Julia Millan. No. 27 Stammel inched closer to a three-peat opportunity with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Kathryn Wilson from Purdue. No. 45 Ray and Pearce finished off the flawless day for Vanderbilt; Ray ousted Louisville’s Berta Miret 6-3, 6-3 and Pearce collected a 6-1, 6-3 win versus Maeve Thornton of Tennessee.
Tomorrow’s matches begin with the doubles quarterfinals starting at 8 a.m. Singles play will follow at 9:30 a.m. and the singles quarterfinals are set to start afterwards at 1:30 p.m. The ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships tournament page is available online with live streaming available here.
