Head coach Tim Corbin on Shorey: “Matt was relied upon heavily throughout last season as a freshman and consistently handled himself well in high-temperature moments. He grew steadily as the year progressed and carried that momentum into the summer, where he pitched for Bourne in the Cape Cod League and played a significant role in their championship run as a starter. Matt is a very mature, self-directed young man with natural leadership abilities and a strong sense of purpose in his work. On the mound, he is a skilled strike thrower who understands how to manipulate the baseball and compete with intent. He pitches with presence and a strong feel for the game. Matt has the versatility to serve as a starter on our staff or impact us in another important role, and he will continue to be a significant piece of our pitching staff moving forward.”

• Worked 13.2 innings over 14 appearances
• Made six appearances in SEC contests, going 1-0 with a 4.04 ERA
• 2.0 scoreless innings in relief at USC (March 1)
• Earned first win with a scoreless inning, striking out two batters, vs. Saint Mary’s (Feb. 22)
• Made collegiate debut at Grand Canyon on Opening Day (Feb. 14)
• Ranked as the No. 59 freshman entering the 2025 season by Perfect Game
