Butler was one of the Commodores[apos] defensive stalwarts as a second-year starting outside linebacker… Played and started 10 games, missing three midseason encounters due to injury… Finished the year with 43 total tackles, including 31 solo stops and 9.5 tackles for loss… Gave the Vanderbilt defense a huge lift when he returned to the lineup for the final seven games… He posted at least five tackles in four of his final five appearances, including a career-high six solo stops in a victory over Kentucky… Enjoyed a superb game in Vanderbilt[apos]s 41-24 victory over Houston in the BBVA Compass Bowl, contributing five solo tackles, a quarterback sack, two tackles for loss, and a pair of defensed passes… Registered at least one tackle for loss in last four apperances and earned two stops resulting in lost yards in team[apos]s victory at Tennessee… Matched career high with seven tackles and added a fumble recovery at Texas A&M.
2012
Earned starting assignments in all 13 games at outside linebacker… Extremely productive campaign, ranking fifth on team with 51 total tackles… Shared team lead with 11.5 tackles for loss… Also contributed two sacks, five passes defended, a forced fumble and fumble recovery, and two QB hurries… Had at least three tackles in 10 of 13 games… Produced career high of four solo tackles against three opponents: Northwestern, Missouri and Tennessee… Career high of seven total tackles came in win over Missouri… Contributed three tackles in team[apos]s Music City Bowl victory… In season opener vs. South Carolina, forced and recovered fumble… Contributed 2.5 tackles for loss at Northwestern… Sacks came against Florida and Wake Forest.
2011
Played in all 13 games… Moved from safety to linebacker prior to Army game after injuries thinned LB corps… The shift created depth and improved pass coverage capabilities at the linebacker position… Concluded regular season by setting career highs with 18 solo tackles, and 27 total tackles… Posted single-game high of five tackles in opener vs. Elon and finale vs. Wake Forest… Contributed four tackles and a fumble recovery in win over Army.
High School
Voted by teammates as senior captain… Recipient of Bob Conlin Award, school[apos]s top scholar-athlete honor… Earned four varsity letters in strong New Orleans private Catholic league… Started at CB since sophomore season… As senior, contributed 31 tackles, one INT and eight defensed passes, helping Brother Martin to first round of state playoffs… Named honorable mention All-State, All-District and All-Metro DB as senior… Posted 36 tackles, five INTs and 12 defensed passes as junior, garnering All-State recognition… Two-time All-Region as high jumper in track, with 6[apos]6′ PR.
