Smith put together his finest Commodore as a senior defender… Smith participated in 10 games at inside linebacker, earning six starts… Ranked among the defense’s top players until injuries slowed his production at midseason… Set numerous single-season highs, including 29 solo stops, 57 total tackles and four tackles for loss… Started season with six solo tackles in team’s opening-season win at Middle Tennessee, then added nine tackles against Alabama A&M and a career-best 12 stops in victory over Kansas State… Contributed 1.5 tackles for loss in Alabama A&M performance… Had at least six tackles in each of team’s first six games… Closed his Commodore career with productive effort in season finale win over Tennessee.
2016
Smith dealt with injuries as a third-year contributor for the Commodore defense… Smith played in nine games at linebacker and safety, finishing the year with six total tackles, including four unassisted stops… He matched a career high with three tackles in the team’s win at Georgia.
2015
Smith became a valuable member of the Commodore secondary as a second-year contributor… Played in 11 of 12 games, missing only the Georgia game… Played both safety and nickel back, earning starts in victory at Middle Tennessee and against Houston… Concluded the year with 10 total tackles and a defensed pass… Opened season with two tackles against Kentucky, then established personal high with three stops in win over Austin Peay… Also contributed pair of tackles at Ole Miss.
2014
