Southerland was impressive as an interior linebacker on scout teams… Spent first year on campus as redshirt… Displayed excellent knowledge on position responsibilities and was solid in the weight room.

Senior captain… Four-year varsity letterwinner… Three-year starter at LB… Posted team-leading 146 tackles for GAC as senior linebacker, helping GAC to AA playoffs… Also contributed five rushing TDs… Earned First Team AA All-State recognition from Georgia Sports Writers Association and First Team All-Gwinnett County honors… Selected to play in the Georgia North-South All-Star Game… As junior, helped Spartans advance to AA semifinals and achieve 9-4 overall record… Standout thrower in track & field, finishing seventh at the 2008 state meet in the shot put… Personal best in event is 49[apos]11… Involved in campus FCA activities.

Blake Phillips Southerland… Son of Barry and Jill Southerland… Born Nov. 3, 1990… Youngest of three siblings: sister, Brittany, and brother, Brannan, a four-year starting fullback at Georgia who graduated in December… Dad is self-employed; mom is the GAC food store manager… Enjoys collecting coins and hunting.
