HOOVER, Ala. –Senior catcher Shea Robin was recently named one of 12 semifinalists for the Johnny Bench Award by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.
This award is presented annually at the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet to the nation’s top collegiate catcher, as voted on by the national voting committee which is comprised of sportswriters, sportscasters, Division I coaches and scouts.
Robin ended the regular season hitting .316 with four homers, 17 doubles, two triples and 26 RBI in 47 games. He batted .325 with three homers, 10 doubles and 20 RBI in 29 Southeastern Conference games.
The Woodlands, Texas native was the lone semifinalist from the SEC. The senior has 194 career hits entering the conference tournament and has a career batting average of .308 with 11 homers, 42 doubles and 98 RBI.
Statistical information will be compiled on each of the semifinalists and sent to the national voting committee for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 3, 2008.
A final vote among the national selection committee will occur during the College World Series. All three finalists and their coaches will be invited to Wichita for the 11th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27, 2008. Johnny Bench will present the award to the recipient.
