Rematch Set For SEC Tournament

Commodores face Ole Miss in first round Thursday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis concluded the regular season eighth in the SEC and will face ninth-seeded Ole Miss in a rematch of their regular season finale Thursday at 11 a.m. CT. In their last outing, the Commodores defeated the Rebels, 4-1, to round out their home schedule.

Debriefing
The Commodores concluded their regular season slate with a pair of home duals against Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The team opened the weekend with a convincing 5-1 win over the visiting Bulldogs before celebrating senior day with a 4-1 win over the Rebels.

In both contests, the Commodores jumped out to an early lead by clinching the doubles point before putting on a dominant performance on the singles courts to improve their season record to 15-8.

Scouting the Opponent
Ole Miss comes into the postseason with a 13-10 overall record and finished just behind the Dores in the SEC.

At the latest rankings release, the Rebels were 47th nationally and boasted a trio of individuals ranked at singles as well as the 71st-ranked doubles team in Rachel Krzyak and Sabina Machalova. At singles, Tiphanie Fiquet ranks 39th overall, Machalova is 65th nationally and Anaelle Leclercq ranks 123rd.

In their regular season finale, the Dores and Rebels split a pair of ranked singles matchups as No. 68 Anessa Lee fell to Machalova on the top court before No. 86 Holly Staff defeated Leclercq in straight sets on Court 2.

ITA Rankings

  • The Commodores are ranked 36th nationally in the latest ITA release with three individuals boasting national rankings as well.
  • Anna Ross enters the post season ranked 44th nationally while Lee is 69th and Staff comes in 86th.
  • At doubles, Ross and Staff team up for a 5-1 dual record and rank 39th nationally as they prepare for the SEC Tournament.
