Rally Comes up Short

Vanderbilt homers three times in the eighth, but falls 6-4

LAS VEGAS — Vanderbilt cut a six-run deficit down to two against Oregon on Sunday but fell 6-4 at the Live Like Lou Las Vegas College Classic.

The Dores were held scoreless over the first seven innings but blasted three home runs in the eighth to pull within two of Oregon after the Ducks jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

Oregon got on the board first with a solo homer in the bottom of the second. The Ducks added two more in the bottom of the third on an RBI double and an RBI single to go up 3-0.

Oregon used another solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to take a four-run advantage. Back-to-back home runs to lead off the bottom of the sixth extended Oregon’s lead further.

Korbin Reynolds hit his second career home run to start off the eighth-inning rally. After Brodie Johnston worked a walk, Mike Mancini went deep to make it 6-3. Vanderbilt went back-to-back as Braden Holcomb launched a 461-foot shot to center field, cutting the Ducks’ lead down to two.

The Commodores loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, but Oregon held on to win 6-4.

Vandy returns to Nashville to host five home games this week beginning with Central Arkansas on Tuesday and Troy on Wednesday at Hawkins Field.
