Price also picks up SEC weekly honors

Nashville, Tenn. – Sophomore lefthander David Price was named one of Louisville Slugger’s National Players of the Week as selected by Collegiate Baseball today.

In addition, Price was also named SEC Pitcher of the Week, marking the first time he has received the weekly award.

Price was dominant in his outing against Brown on Friday night, recording a career-best 15 strikeouts in just seven innings. The Murfreesboro product struck out six of the first nine batters and had a no-hitter through 3.2 innings of work against the Bears. After giving up the hit in the fourth, the next five outs came via strikeout. He allowed one run on four hits with just one walk and left after seven innings with a 7-1 lead.

Creighton catcher Chris Gradoville, Metro St. College Of Denver’s first baseman Mike Hoefs and Southern Miss third baseman Marc Maddox shared National Hitter of the Week honors, while Washington pitcher Tim Linecum and Nick Hagadone both shared the pitcher award with Price. They combined to no-hit Santa Clara last week.

The Commodores close out their 14-game homestand with a pair of midweek games against Butler at Hawkins Field on Tuesday and Wednesday. The teams will open the set tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.

In other news, The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Cap National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 12, today. Creighton junior catcher Chris Gradoville was named National Hitter of the Week, while Vanderbilt sophomore left-handed pitcher David Price was named National Pitcher of the Week.

The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
